It is summer and our minds drift to the beach, cookouts and fun. We cannot however, forget the heat! Summer is in full swing and we are all feeling the heat. Keeping properly hydrated is extremely important this time of year.

We can do this through one of the most readily available fruits on our island, the coconut. Coconut water is a pure low-calorie, super-hydrating, naturally rich in electrolytes drink that has many health benefits, chief among these are:

  1. Help you lose weight
  2. Can aid digestion
  3. Can help fight viruses
  4. Can help revitalize your cells and boost your metabolism

With this heat dehydration is almost inevitable. When your body is dehydrated it means your body does not have as much water and fluids as it needs to function properly. It can range from mild, moderate or severe.

You might be wondering how you can tell if you are dehydrated? Here are the symptoms that you need more fluids in your body :

Dark Urine – Dark Yellow or Orange in Color –
Urine is generally pale yellow to clear when you have sufficient water intake. Dark color or strong smell indicates that you need to drink more water.

Dry Skin – Skin is the largest body organ and requires its share of water.

Thirst – Thirst is the most obvious sign that you’re already dehydrated. It is always a good practice to drink more water when you are not thirsty, don’t wait until you’re thirsty.

Hunger – Most people mistake hunger for the indication to eat more, whereas, in actual fact, they may be dehydrated. So before you have your meal, grab a glass of water.

Fatigue – Water is a source of energy and gives you a boost in energy.
